For many decades Lancia has been synonymous with innovation and quality engineering. Many automotive firsts have been credited to the marque, such as V6 engines and independent suspension to name just two. In 1960 it introduced the Flavia, with many advanced features, notably a flat-four cylinder engine, front wheel drive and all wheel disc brakes. The 78bhp 1,500cc engined saloon proved a popular choice on the domestic market, even before the introduction of a 92bhp 1,800cc engine, with consequent increased performance.
