Zagato… A legendary name for enthusiasts of exotic classic cars. A name associated with famous brands such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and in this case Lancia.

Carrozzeria Zagato was founded in 1919 by Ugo Zagato. He developed lightweight bodies for the aforementioned car manufacturers, using aerospace techniques. After the Second World War, Zagato also built bodies for the Italian manufacturers Maserati, Abarth and Ferrari, but Zagato also increasingly worked for manufacturers from other countries, such as Aston Martin and Bristol. A real Zagato signature style element was the so-called “Double Bubble”; a roofline in which the roof in the longitudinal direction of the car was slightly raised above the two seats, creating two teardrop-shaped bumps on the roof. According to many enthusiasts, one of the most successful designs is the Lancia Flaminia 2500 3C Sport Zagato. We can now offer exactly that car. This Lancia was built in 1961 and only 174 units were built. So exclusivity at its best.

This fantastic Lancia has spent a large part of its life in England, from 1965 to 2007. Then the car was sold to the Netherlands and a complete restoration was carried out in the following years. The best Lancia Flaminia specialist in the Netherlands, restorer Herman Rooswinkel, was asked to put all his this craftsmanship in this huge job. All the work is captured on hundreds of photos which are a very good impression of the fact that only the best was good enough. From a bare body, stripped of all aluminum sheet metal, the Lancia was completely rebuilt. An immense job that took quite some time of course, but with the aim of making the car perfect again, and even better than it had ever been. For example, a few changes were made: the assembly of the unique Zagato seats, which not only look great, but are also much comfortable than the original ones. Incidentally, these (unrestored) chairs come with the car. The original steering wheel is also included, because the owner had managed to get his hands on a much sought-after Franco Conti steering wheel that perfectly matches the red interior.

The great color called Grigio Newmarket together with the Pelle Rossa leather interior is the original color combination. Taste cannot be denied to the first owner. It can be called both sporty and chic and an absolute added value for an upper class design car like this Lancia Flaminia Zagato.

In terms of technique, of course, everything was taken care of. In England the 2.5 litre engine once was exchanged for the same type, but then the 2.8 litre from the same type Flaminia Sport. It provides a bit more power than the 2.5 litre and partly for this reason it was decided to reassemble this engine. Incidentally, a (not overhauled) 2.5 litre engine is included. This engine is of course beautiful to see, and therefore stands as a shiny display in the owner’s office. The office will therefore look a lot less attractive after the car has been sold… The unmounted bumpers are of course present, but there is a good chance that you agree with the owner and us, that without the bumpers, the car will might look even more attractive than when they were fitted. The beautiful line of the car is further accentuated and is even smoother.

Since the restoration, the car has been part of a great collection of Italian classics, but is now allowed to go to a new owner due to “a little too many cars”. This Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato Series 2, therefore registered in the Netherlands, will be delivered including the parts already mentioned, but also with an extensive photo report of the restoration, many invoices and correspondence, the original Italian Certificato di Origine, English documents and the original instruction booklet.

Zagato… Voor de liefhebbers van exotische klassieke auto’s een legendarische naam. Een naam die verbonden is met befaamde merken zoals Fiat, Alfa Romeo, en in dit geval Lancia.

Carrozzeria Zagato werd in 1919 opgericht door Ugo Zagato. Hij ontwikkelde lichtgewicht carrosserieën voor de genoemde autofabrikanten, daarbij gebruikmakend van luchtvaarttechnieken. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog bouwde Zagato ook carrosserieën voor de Italiaanse fabrikanten Maserati, Abarth en Ferrari, maar Zagato werkte ook steeds meer voor fabrikanten uit andere landen, zoals Aston Martin en Bristol. Een echt Zagato kenmerkend stijlelement was de zogenoemde ”Double Bubble”; een daklijn waarbij boven de beide stoelen het dak in de lengterichting van de auto iets verhoogd was, waardoor er twee druppelvormige bobbels op het dak ontstonden. Een van de meest geslaagde ontwerpen is volgens menig liefhebber toch wel de Lancia Flaminia 2500 3C Sport Zagato. Exact die auto kunnen we nu aanbieden. Deze Lancia is van bouwjaar 1961 en waarvan er slechts 174 stuks zijn gebouwd. Exclusiviteit ten top dus.

Deze fantastische Lancia heeft een groot deel van zijn leven in Engeland doorgebracht, namelijk van 1965 tot 2007. Toen werd de auto naar Nederland verkocht en in de loop van de volgende jaren een volledige restauratie uitgevoerd. Voor dit vakmanschap werd dé Lancia Flaminia specialist van Nederland ingeschakeld, restaurateur Herman Rooswinkel. Alle werkzaamheden zijn vastgelegd op honderden foto’s die een heel goed beeld geven dat niets aan het toeval werd overgelaten, en alleen het beste goed genoeg was. Vanaf een kale carrosserie, en ontdaan van alle aluminium plaatwerk, werd de Lancia weer compleet nieuw opgebouwd. Een immens karwei waarover geruime tijd werd gedaan, maar wel met het doel voor ogen de auto weer perfect te maken, en zelfs beter dan deze ooit was geweest. Zo werden er een paar wijzigingen aangebracht in de vorm van de montage van de unieke Zagato stoelen, die er niet alleen geweldig uitzien, maar ook veel beter zitten dan de originele. Overigens worden deze (ongerestaureerde) stoelen bijgeleverd. Ook wordt bijgeleverd het originele stuurwiel, want de eigenaar had de hand weten te leggen op een veel gezocht en subliem bij het rode interieur passend Franco Conti stuurwiel.

De geweldige kleur genaamd Grigio Newmarket is samen met het Pelle Rossa lederen interieur de originele kleurencombinatie. Smaak kan de eerste eigenaar dus niet ontzegt worden. Het is zowel sportief als chique te noemen en een absoute meerwaarde voor een upper class design auto als deze Lancia Flaminia Zagato.

Qua techniek werd natuurlijk ook echt alles onder handen genomen. In Engeland was de 2500 cc. motor als eens gewisseld voor eenzelfde type, maar dan de 2800 cc van hetzelfde type Flamina Sport. Die levert wat meer power dan de 2500 cc en mede hierom werd besloten deze motor weer te monteren. Overigens wordt een (niet gereviseerde) 2500 cc motor bijgeleverd. Deze motor is natuurlijk prachtig om te zien, en staat daarom als blinkend display in het kantoor van de eigenaar. Het kantoor zal straks na verkoop van de auto er dus ook een stuk minder aantrekkelijk uitzien.. De niet gemonteerde bumpers zijn vanzelfsprekend wel aanwezig, maar grote kans dat u het met de eigenaar en ons, eens bent dat zonder de bumpers, de auto er misschien nog wel aantrekkelijker uitziet dan met. De prachtige lijn van de auto wordt er nog meer door geaccentueerd en is nog vloeiender.

De auto maakt sinds de restauratie deel uit van een geweldige collectie Italiaanse klassiekers, maar mag nu wegens “een beetje teveel auto’s” naar een nieuwe eigenaar. Deze dus in Nederland geregistreerde Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato Series 2 wordt geleverd inclusief de reeds vermelde onderdelen, maar ook met een uitgebreide fotoreportage van de restauratie, vele facturen en briefwisselingen, het originele Italiaanse Certificato di Origine, Engelse documenten en het originele instructieboekje.
