First registered in Turin as ‘TO34164H’ by FIAT Auto SpA on 22nd November 1988, this Lancia Delta Integrale was a works entry driven by local ace Vic Preston Jr in that year’s East African Safari Rally. Unfortunately, Vic had to retire the car with a broken gearbox having crashed off the road; his team-mate Miki Biasion, though, went on to win, his victory being Lancia’s first in this most challenging of international rallies.

This car’s next known outing was the 1989 Acropolis Rally (27th May to 1st June) where it was driven by the Argentine driver Jorge Recalde, finishing in 5th place. Jorge Recalde was the only Argentine winner of the Rally Argentina, doing so in 1988 driving a Lancia Delta Integrale and in the process becoming the only Argentine to win a World Rally Championship round. He died of a heart attack while competing in the Villa Dolores Rally in 2001.
FIAT sold the Integrale shortly after the Acropolis Rally (on 29th June 1989), its purchaser being Fingold SpA in Milan, a finance company. The Top Run rally team then took over the Integrale for the remainder of the 1989 season, entering Recalde in the Rally Australia (DNF, broken driveshaft, Special Stage 2); and the RAC Rally (15th overall). The Integrale was subsequently sold to a leasing company, Biella leasing SPA in Turin, in 1993 IT was sold on to Scuderia Valcamonica in Breno.

In 1996, a well-known rally collector of Cuneo, Italy bought the Integrale. The Integrale was in normal rally trim upon his purchase but it was supplied with Safari Rally parts in boxes. It was at this time the car was subject to a restoration, returning it to its Safari Rally configuration in the late 1990s, using the correct five-speed gearbox (a six-speeder was used for all other rallies). Apparently, the car was not used by the collector owner as he had many other historic rally cars to play with (Lancia S4, etc).
Sold to Scuderia Jolly Italia in 2010, the Integrale returned to its previous rally collector owner in 2013 and was sold to the current owner in Pavia early in 2019. Believed unused since circa 1996, the car is said to need some re-commissioning but nevertheless is described by the vendor as functioning well. A rare opportunity to acquire an ex-works example of this historic rally car possessing in-period World Championship history.

Immatricolata per la prima volta a Torino come “TO34164H” dalla FIAT Auto SpA il 22 novembre 1988, questa Lancia Delta Integrale ufficiale guidata dall’asso locale Vic Preston Jr nell’East African Safari Rally di quell’anno. Sfortunatamente, Vic ha dovuto ritirare l’auto causa rottura cambio; il suo compagno di squadra Miki Biasion, invece, ha continuato la gara portando la Lancia a conquistare il primo rally Safari.

La successiva uscita nota di questa vettura fu il Rally dell’Acropoli del 1989 (dal 27 maggio al 1 giugno) dove fu guidata dal pilota argentino Jorge Recalde, finendo al 5° posto. Jorge Recalde è stato l’unico argentino a vincere il Rally d’Argentina, facendolo nel 1988 alla guida di una Lancia Delta Integrale e diventando nel frattempo l’unico argentino a vincere un round del Campionato del Mondo Rally. Morì di infarto mentre gareggiava al Villa Dolores Rally nel 2001.
La FIAT vendette l’Integrale poco dopo il Rally dell’Acropoli (29 giugno 1989),alla Fingold SpA di Milano, una società finanziaria. Il team di rally Top Run ha poi rilevato l’Integrale per il resto della stagione 1989, partecipando a Recalde al Rally Australia (DNF, albero di trasmissione rotto, Special Stage 2); e il RAC Rally (15° assoluto). L’Integrale è stata successivamente venduta ad una società di leasing, la Biella leasing SPA di Torino, nel 1993 l’IT è stata ceduta alla Scuderia Valcamonica di Breno.

Nel 1996, un noto collezionista di rally di Italiano, acquistò l’Integrale. L’Integrale era in normale assetto da rally al momento dell’acquisto, ma è stata fornita con parti Safari Rally in scatole. Fu in quel momento che l’auto fu oggetto di un restauro, riportandola alla sua configurazione Safari Rally alla fine degli anni ’90, utilizzando il corretto cambio a cinque marce (per tutti gli altri rally fu utilizzato un sei marce).
Venduta alla Scuderia Jolly Italia nel 2010, l’Integrale è tornata al suo precedente proprietario di collezionista di rally nel 2013 ed è stata venduta all’attuale proprietario a Pavia all’inizio del 2019. Dal restauro del 1996 l’auto non è piu stata utilizzata ma viene venduta funzionante con motore in moto.
