A Group B Legend for the Road

The Lancia Delta S4 Stradale stands among the most formidable creations of the Group B era, a time when engineering ingenuity was only limited by imagination.
Conceived to homologate the Delta S4 rally car, the Stradale shared much of its DNA with its competition counterpart: a tubular chassis clad in Kevlar-reinforced fiberglass panels, advanced all-wheel drive, and a remarkable 1.8-liter twin-charged four-cylinder engine, both supercharged and turbocharged, delivering 250 hp to the road-going version.

With fewer than 80 examples believed to have been built, the Delta S4 Stradale remains one of the rarest homologation cars ever created, a mechanical masterpiece that bridged the gap between rally technology and road usability.

History of Chassis No. 032

Built in Turin in 1986, chassis ZLA038AR000000032 is a highly original and well-preserved example of the legendary Delta S4 Stradale.

Its early life is documented through Christie’s 2004 auction, where it appeared showing fewer than 10,500 km. The catalogue described the car as having been stored for approximately ten years in dry conditions, followed by a complete mechanical recommissioning including the replacement of fluids, timing belts, and spark plugs, after which it was reported to "run extremely well."
Work was carried out by Zagato Lancia, as confirmed in the period invoice included within the file.

The car retained its Blaupunkt New York cassette stereo and equalizer, together with Kenwood speakers installed in the doors, period details that underline its authenticity.

After the Christie’s sale, the S4 joined the David Sutton Motorsport Museum in Northamptonshire, UK, a prestigious collection dedicated to Group B and rally legends. During its time there, it shared the floor with icons such as the Lancia 037 Evo 1, Lancia Stratos HF Stradale, Ford RS200, and Audi Quattro Sport Group B. The museum’s in-house technicians maintained the car meticulously, and a British MOT issued in November 2006 recorded 11,386 km.

In December 2008, it was acquired by another prominent private collector, whose stable included a Peugeot 205 T16, Ford RS200, and other significant performance cars. Maintenance records from Geoff Page Racing dated 2013 document a comprehensive service, including replacement of the timing belt, spark plugs, oil, filters, valve adjustment, and coolant renewal, totaling £2,757.83.

Later, the Delta S4 spent time in a dry climate collection before returning to Europe in 2019. Upon its arrival in Italy, it underwent a complete check and timing-belt service performed by Baldi, the Lancia specialist in Turin.

Today, the odometer reads 12,680 km, confirming only 1,080 km covered since that last service.
