The 1951 Turin Motor Show marked the beginning of an era: Lancia introduced the Aurelia B20 GT, one of the highest examples of the Gran Turismo concept. Based on Felice Mario Boano's design, production was entrusted to the Pinin Farina coachbuilder, who was able to meet the planned demand, except for a few pre-series made by Ghia.

The first series of the B20 was produced in 408 examples in 1951 and another 80 were made in 1952. The engine is the V6 projected by engineer De Virgilio with a 60° angle and built with lightweight materials such as aluminium for the block and heads. This pursuit of lightness would make Lancia a technological leader. With a displacement of 1,991 cc, later increased to 2,451 cc, it delivered 75 hp that would later become 80 hp.

1951 also marked the Turin GT's racing debut. During that year's Mille Miglia, the B20 entered in a semi-official appearance: the cars were registered in the drivers' names because in case of defeat Lancia would not have figured. The problem didn’t occur, the B20-1010, thanks to its handling qualities even in the wet, won its class with Bracco-Maglioli and placed second overall behind Villoresi's Ferrari.

In the same year, the example we present was purchased by Mr Antonio Pozzato. The original warranty certificate, which is still available, is dated 26 October 1951. The car started its life with a brilliant racing career, as Mr Pozzato was a driver who also made his name driving a Maserati sport. The B20 GT crew Pozzato took part in four Mille Miglia and five Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti.
In the late 1990s, the B20 was bought by a well-known collector in north-eastern Italy who didn’t register the car under his name, so the current owner is the second.

Restored in 2017 and 2018 only regarding the mechanics and floor pans, our B20 features the livery under which it participated in one of the Coppa d'Oro with the number 90. Today, the car is equipped with sporty, lightweight seats, while the originals are available, and rare restored Borrani bimetallic wheels. In addition, the B20 is fitted with a floor-mounted gear shift lever conversion and two Nardi-type carburettors. This example of the B20 GT is a car ready to delight lovers of history and preserved cars. With a remarkable Palmarès, it represents the sporty and elegant Italian coupé eligible for major international events.
