The Lancia Aurelia was the first car in history to be produced with a six-cylinder 60° V engine. The product of the genius of Vittorio Jano and Francesco de Virgilio, it was a car that showcased all of Lancia's technical genius and creativity. Fruit of the experience gained before the Second World War with the formidable 4- and 8-cylinder narrow V engines of the Aprilia and Dilambda, the Aurelia represented the Lancia of the new course. Technical refinement was expressed not only by the aluminium V6, which was shell cast, but also by the load-bearing structure, independent wheels and inboard brakes to reduce unsprung masses. As was customary for manufacturers of the time, the Aurelia was offered in several variants, most notably the B20 and B20 outfitted by Pininfarina of Turin. In addition to these 'mass-produced custom-built cars', Lancia also offered a chassis designed to be sold to coachbuilders to allow custom builds on the Aurelia's formidable mechanicals. At the beginning of 1951, Pininfarina was responsible for building a small series of around 250 examples on the B50 chassis, where they created an elegant long-wheelbase cabriolet. A powerful and elegant grand touring car, Pininfarina's B50 was in every respect one of the most elegant creations of Italian coachbuilding in the 1950s.
Always belonged to the same family, this 1951 B50 Cabriolet Pininfarina was first registered in Rome on 26 October 1951. Never fully restored, it has always been maintained by the same family and retains many original details to this day, including the interior, tool kit and, of course, the first registration plate and registration book.
Beautiful in its original condition, this B50 is ready to pass into the hands of a new owner who will take care of it for years to come.
