Examples of the Lancia Astura do not come along very often and when they do, they cause something of a stir as one of the most important pre-war motor cars. From the 1920's until the outbreak of WWII, Vincenzo Lancia created some of the finest automobiles of the time, including the Astura. These cars have been making headlines in the automotive world lately, winning the top honours at the two most celebrated international concours events in 2016; the Concourse d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, and the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. It isn't hard to understand why with their classic and elegant PininFarina styling and unique, yet effective V8 engine. Highly collectable and extremely rare, these cars are in high demand worldwide especially when in Concours condition.

This 1938 Astura Series Four Cabriolet by PininFarina was believed to be delivered new to the Italian ambassador in London. It was then imported from the UK to Australia, where the previous owner of 44 years purchased the car in 1972. In 1973, the car was dismantled and what was to be an incredible 30-year restoration was commenced. No expense was spared in this ground-up, nut and bolt restoration all of which a detailed log, complete with photos was kept.

In the present day, this example presents in concours condition. The restoration process was completed with total originality in mind. The Deep Green paint perfectly complements the tan interior and everything from the light fittings to the instrument cluster present exactly as they would have in 1938. It is in perfect running order, having travelled only 12,000 miles since its full engine and driveline rebuild that occurred during the restoration process. Having travelled to various events throughout Australia such as the Castlemaine Rally in Victoria, the Astura produces 68 horsepower and can cruise at 80mph without concern.

This example has an excellent documented provenance including a detailed report on the restoration process, all receipts for work completed, extensive photographs, newspaper articles, workshop manuals and email correspondence.

With very few of these beautiful automobiles remaining worldwide, their unique charm and rich history has made them an absolute collectible today. In concours condition, this is an excellent opportunity to own a fine piece of Italian automotive history.
