Few cars demonstrate Lancia's extraordinary engineering ambition of the pre-war era quite like the Aprilia, combining sophisticated independent suspension, lightweight construction and elegant styling. This 1949 example is presented in its original shade of Lancia Dark Blue and has recently emerged from a comprehensive, decade-long restoration.

According to its accompanying buff logbook, the Aprilia was first imported into the UK in 1956 to a gentleman in Southampton before moving to Norfolk in 1960, when it was purchased by renowned Lancia enthusiast and racer Norman Wilson. The car was painted red during Wilson's ownership before eventually being returned to its original Dark Blue. In 1991 it passed to respected Lancia specialist Peter Harding, who intended to restore it but never commenced the project. It subsequently spent 22 years dry stored in a 14th-century barn.

The present owner, an aeronautical engineer and long-standing Lancia enthusiast, purchased the car from Harding in 2013 as a restoration project. Heritage Motor Works carried out extensive structural work, including new floors, sills, door skins and structures, wings, boot lid, windscreen surround, roof seam, battery box and rear valance, before the body and wheels were professionally painted by Chroma Concepts.

The mechanical work has been equally thorough, with the engine, gearbox, steering box, suspension, rear axle, brakes, wiring and fuel system all restored or renewed, alongside five new Michelin tyres and a stainless-steel exhaust. The car has covered approximately 2,500km since returning to the road and is being run in following its engine rebuild.

With approximately £32,000 spent on bodywork, around £10,000 on the engine and numerous additional invoices, the vendor believes total expenditure exceeds £50,000. The interior is now the final stage, while the correct bumpers are present but not currently fitted. A fascinating and substantial restoration of an important Lancia, now ready to be completed and enjoyed. Consigned by Fraser Smith
