Based in Aschaffenburg, Germany, Peter Kaus' Rosso Bianco collection was one of the most important collections of sports and racing cars in the world, before it closed its doors for good in the early 2000s. It was characterized by the quality of the models that made it up, and the Lancia Appia Zagato in this sale was one of them. It changed hands and was bought by the previous owner, during a legendary Zagato auction in 1992, under the hammer of Mr Poulain. Its old restoration has stood the test of time, with a beautiful red paintwork and a very neat interior, typical of the small Italian sports cars of this period. On the dashboard, the tachometer is at the center, a sign of sportiness, with its 1.1-litre V4 engine pumped up to 53bhp. The owner's mechanic overhauled the mechanicals and the suspensions a few years ago. This is one of the last designs of the Appia Zagato and, thanks to Ercole Spada, one of the most attractive with its streamlined headlamps.
It is a rare model, whose production would be around 300 units, and it is characterized by its lightness (thanks to its aluminum body) as well as its aerodynamics, which allowed it to do well on the circuits. Today, it is recognized as a jewel which would be very welcome at most important historic vehicle events.
