By the late 1920s Lanchester‘s finances were not in the best of health, so much so that in January 1931; the company‘s bank left Lanchester the limited options of either bankruptcy or amalgamation with Daimler. Not surprisingly the latter course was chosen, one favoured strongly by Daimler which was keen to expand sales at the lower end of the automobile market. Lanchester duly moved location to Coventry where low level production of the Lanchester Straight 8, the last of George Lanchester‘s designs for his own company, continued until 1932. The previous year, however, it had been joined by the 2 1/2 litre, straight six engined 15/18 saloon, the first new model following this merger of two of England‘s most respected motoring marques.
