2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 #2698

Giallo Orion/black
6-speed manual
4,400 original miles
Fully optioned

The dramatic Lamborghini Murciélago was introduced as the scion to the enormously successful Diablo as the company flagship V12 model in 2001 and becoming available to the North American market in 2002.

The Murciélago was the first model introduced under the corporate ownership of parent company Audi (Volkswagen Group) and was designed by Luc Donckerwolke who also penned final SE versions of the Diablo and served as Lamborghini’s chief designer from 1998 to 2005.

Production of the Murciélago ran until 2010 and featured the LP640 coupe and roadster, limited edition LP650-4 Roadster and the LP-670-4 SuperVeloce with 4,099 examples built in total until being replaced by the Aventador.

Murciélago was a continuation of the Lamborghini tradition of naming their cars after famous fighting bulls, Murciélago, in particular, was a bull which survived 24 sword strokes in a fight against Rafael “El Lagartijo” Molina Sanchez in 1879. The matador chose the spare of the life of Murciélago and thus the genesis of line of Lamborghini fighting bulls.

The Murciélago is an all-wheel drive car featuring a normally aspirated V12, 48 valve engine with maximum power of 572BHP with performance of 0 to 62MPH (100KMH) in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 205MPH (330KMH).

While Lamborghini may trace it’s V12 roots to the company’s very beginnings, the engines themselves have evolved with modern technology as in the case with the Murciélago’s high tech V12 fuel injected engine integrated with the differential with the “Vicious Traction” (VT) system which transmits 70% of its power to the rear wheels and 30% to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

The Murciélago suspension utilizes race proven independent double wishbone design layout while the body is mostly carbon fiber with steel roof and retaining the signature aluminum scissor doors to maintain light weight.

The active aspects of the Murciélago feature an integrated rear wing and air intakes atop the rear wheels which are electromechanically controlled and deploy automatically in order to aide cooling to the massive engine and keep the car stable at high speeds. The dramatic air intakes lift from the rest of the body creating a huge air intake effectively aiding cooling and adding an aero foil to the car with a bit more drag.

The interior is a simple layout, nothing too over the top but a very modern update from the Diablo with a comfortable design which envelopes driver and passenger in full leather comfort in a very simple and clean look with all of the major controls and gated shift lever integrated into the central console.

The Murcielago LP640 variant was introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. The new name indicated the alphanumeric designation per the car’s engine orientation (Longitudinale Posteriore) with engine displacement increased to 6.5 liters which creates 631BHP at 8,000RPM.

There were a few noticeable exterior changes including revised front and rear fascias and asymmetrical side air intakes, with the left side intake feeding an oil cooler. A new single outlet exhaust system was more incorporated into the rear diffuser.

Handling was improved with a modified suspension system, revised programming, and smoother manual transmission rounded out the performance modifications. Interior seating was also re-configured in order to allow driver and passenger comfort. This, along with a new stereo system formed part of the updated dashboard. Optional equipment included Carbon fiber-reinforced Silicon Carbide (C/SiC) ceramic composite brakes, chrome paddle shifters and a glass engine cover.

This Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 (#2698) is one of the best examples of the model found anywhere. One of the very rare 6-speed manual gated shifter supercars, the immaculately cared-for car with only 4,400 original miles shows just as well now as when it was new.

Splendid in Giallo Orion (Pearl Yellow) with Nero (black) with Yellow Q-Citura stitched.leather interior. According to VinWiki records, this example is the lowest mileage LP640 6-speed coupe in North America with full Lamborghini service records dating to new.

The car features full carbon fiber package, carbon ceramic brakes and clear engine bonnet. This is a true no accidents, no stories, all books, records, keys example which has been pampered from Day 1, a true modern collectible which is sure to increase in value over time.

“At Curated, we do not acquire cars simply for inventory but rather based on what the car is. We love interesting provenance, very low production, very low mileage, very special and often weird cars.”
