The Lamborghini Islero is surely one of the rarest and yet least appreciated of Lamborghinis. Developed specifically at the request of Ferruccio Lamborghini as a replacement for the 400GT, the car''s excellent performance was contrasted by its intentionally understated elegance. This was not appreciated by many would-be customers, however, to whom Lamborghini meant Miura and nothing else. In fact, its price of $20,000 was on a par with that of the Miura, which did not help matters. The last Islero left the Sant'' Agata factory on April 15th 1970, after a mere 225 examples had been produced.
All the second series bodies were delivered by Marazzi during 1969, though the first Islero S *or* GTS wasn''t turned out until late summer the same year. This car proved to be a much improved mode
