Description

Penned by Gandini, and built by Bertone, the Lamborghini Espada is unquestionably one of the greatest four-seat grand touring coupes ever built. With four headlights bearing down behind you in your rear-view mirror, an impossibly low hood, and a roaring 350-horsepower V12 soundtrack, not many cars have the road presence of an Espada. Jay Leno has gone so far as to say that the Espada is “an Italian Rolls-Royce,” high praise.

The Espada, which was first shown at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show, is powered by a glorious 3.9-liter V12 engine - shared with the Lamborghini Miura - and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission (or optional 3-speed automatic). Series III Espadas improved upon Series I and II cars with an updated instrument binnacle trimmed in aluminum, as well as exterior alterations including redesigned wheels, a newly designed front grille, and revised tail lights. Just 1,227 units are believed to have been built in the ten year production run from 1968 to 1978.

This is an exceptional and largely original 1973 Lamborghini Espada, showing just 9,000 miles from new. It is now offered from a significant private collection in the Northeast US, and shares a garage with many other vintage and exotic vehicles. It wears a rare shade of Verde Metallizzati paint over Pelle Champagne leather; the seats retain their factory original brogueing. The engine and transmission are original to the car. Under current ownership, this Espada has been lovingly maintained with an open checkbook, keeping it in pristine running condition. The car recently underwent an over $40,000 mechanical restoration, which included installation of electronic power steering, cleaning and rebuilding of the carburetors, replacement of the air conditioning system, and replacement of bushings and more; no major mechanical system went untouched.

This unique Espada needs nothing to be enjoyed for many years to come, and is a rare and wonderful opportunity to acquire one of the finer examples of a venerable and legendary Lamborghini.
