Built in April 1972, this Series II Espada was finished in the stunning colour of Verde Pallido over a Senape leather interior. Under the bonnet lay a 4.0-litre V-12 engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Fitted with an imperial speedometer, and optional nuova sospensione, chassis 8726 was delivered to Modena Sports Cars in New York on 30 May before being sold to collector Jan Butts.
In March 1981, a previous Illinois title shows ownership had been transferred to Todd Butts, but the car remained in the family collection until 2006. Acquired by its previous owner in November 2006 via Luxury Cars Los Gatos of California, the car was retained until early 2015 when it was bought by the consigning owner. In their care, an engine rebuild was performed by Retro Sportiva in 2021, with invoices in excess of €60,000.
Today, this Espada Series II retains its factory-correct Verde Pallido over Senape colour scheme, along with its matching-numbers 4.0-litre V-12 engine. Photographs of the body number have been found on various panels across the car and are available to view on file. The car presents as an extremely well-preserved example. Included are period manuals, brochures, as well as original samples of paintwork and leather from Lamborghini and Bertone, respectively. Up until July 2017, the Espada is believed to have covered just 24,644 miles from new. At this point, its odometer was replaced with a metric display unit to comply with road regulations, and since then the car has been driven just 683 kilometres, commensurate with the reading at the time of cataloguing. The old odometer is included as part of the sale, in addition to a smart period tool roll.
With just three owners from new and excellent provenance, this Espada Series II is sure to attract the attention of Lamborghini collectors looking for a fine example of this landmark 1970s Bertone design.
