Description

This sensational Lamborghini Countach 5000S was special-ordered new by famed US Lamborghini importer Joe Nastasi of Long Island City, New York, and finished in the gorgeous and uncommon color combination of Bianco Perlato (Pearl White) over a Rosso (Red) interior with matching Bianco Perlato wheels. As it was his own personal car and planned to be the New York International Auto Show car, Mr. Nastasi asked Lamborghini to build it with a special feature, the Coda Plexi (Plexiglas Tail). According to correspondence on file with legendary Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni, there was resistance within the company to doing this. However, Mr. Nastasi was a powerful figure for Lamborghini and an important client, so they adhered to his request. Coda Plexi referred to the red acrylic panel between the taillights, giving the car a unique look. The Countach was also fitted with a straight-through Ansa F1 sport exhaust from new.

The Countach was flown to John F. Kennedy International Airport a few weeks after its build date, in July 1984. Mr. Nastasi kept it on display at his dealership and the car was shown at the 1985 New York International Auto Show. Mr. Nastasi continued to display the Lamborghini and kept it for another 28 years, until 2012. He drove it sparingly and it registered under 5,900 km on the odometer at the time of cataloguing.

The special Countach was sold in 2012 to its second owner, a knowledgeable collector, who immediately sent it to Autosport Designs Inc. of Huntington Station, New York, for refreshening, road testing, and cosmetic attention. This work, which totaled over $56,000, included a repaint in its original color, a carburetor rebuild, and the refinishing of the air box assemblies, among other items.

In 2014, the Countach was serviced by DriverSource in Houston, documented by receipts on file. The Lamborghini received new tires and wheel reconditioning. In 2015, the Countach was acquired by the current owner, only its third custodian, who is a collector of the world’s finest sports and racing cars.

The Countach was a groundbreaking design and is one of the most iconic sports cars of all time. This example is far more special than a standard Countach, however. As the New York International Auto Show car fitted with a one-off tail treatment, and the personal car of famed importer Joe Nastasi, this Countach is a unique piece of Lamborghini history. Its low mileage and distinctive color combination further distinguish it from its standard brethren, truly making this Lamborghini a collector’s item worthy of serious consideration.
