Description

1966 LAMBORGHINI 400 GT 2+2:
--Azzurro Metalizzatto with Saddle leather interior, Saddle carpeting, Rare 1 of 247 produced, Concours restoration with 1,500 miles since completion, 4.0 Liter V12 engine, 5-speed manual gearbox, Matching Numbers, Borrani wheels, Rare factory air conditioning, Originally owned by NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, Previous collector ownership, Exceptional concours condition throughout.

Originally developed as the 350 GT, it was Lamborghini’s entrance into the luxury sports car market. With coachwork by Touring of Milan, Dallara designed chassis and a Bizzarrini designed four-cam V12, Lamborghini’s first foray made quite the statement on par with offerings from Ferrari, Aston Martin and Maserati. The 400 GT 2+2 introduced refinements to the model line and was the final evolution of their front-engine grand touring gentleman’s sports cars. Adding 50 more horsepower than the 350, a 2+2 design and a Lamborghini built upgraded gearbox, only 247 400 GT 2+2s were produced.

Procured by Autosport Designs from a well-known collection in Zurich, Switzerland, this 400 GT 2+2 was restored in Switzerland and Italy prior to our purchase. It was returned to the USA having been an original U.S. specification example when first delivered new.

Upon return to the Autosport Designs showroom, it was sold immediately to a very good friend and long-time client. Already in excellent, restored condition, it was decided to freshen which included a bare metal respray, complete reupholster to as new, if not better, and a complete servicing. The gentleman not only wanted the 400 GT be ready and able for immediate use (our long-time friend collector actually drives his automobiles), but he also wanted it ready for various Concours where it would be shown and awarded such as The Hershey Concours d’Elegance, The Radnor Hunt Concours as well as others. Absolutely no stone was left unturned to make sure it was one of the best for road as well as Concours use.

The result is one of the finest 400 GTs you will find within the worlds Lamborghini collector market. It is not only aesthetically superb, but also one of the finest driving 400 GT’s we have had the pleasure of driving and owning.
