Ferruccio Lamborghini, having experienced significant success as a builder of farming equipment, found himself in the enviable position of driving the best offerings from Ferrari. After becoming convinced that he could provide a superior and more luxuriously appointed product, Lamborghini decided to build his own thoroughbred Italian GT cars and founded Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. in 1963.

Following the successful debut of the Franco Scaglione-penned 350 GTV prototype at the 1963 Torino Auto Show, Lamborghini brought in Carlo Anderloni of Carrozzeria Touring to redesign the 350 GT and ready it for production. Pop-up headlights on the GTV were replaced by cleanly integrated oval Cibie units that flowed gracefully into the fenders. The Bizzarrini-designed 3.5-liter V-12 engine was given six twin-choke sidedraft Weber carburetors that allowed the engine to fit under the aggressively sloped hood.

Debuting at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show, the new 350 GT was Lamborghini’s first serial production model and would be built at the company’s facility in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. Outfitted with vacuum-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, a German ZF five-speed gearbox, and double-wishbone suspension at each corner, the 350 GT gave away nothing to its competitors from a specification standpoint. The V-12 engine had an output of 280 bhp that, when combined with its lithe Superleggera (Super light) coachwork, endowed the Lamborghini with performance equal to anything in its class. The 350 GT delivered a 0–60 mph time under seven seconds, with a maximum speed approaching 160 mph; all while being treated to a smooth ride, refined vehicle dynamics, and a quietly comfortable interior.

Resplendent in its black over oxblood red leather color combination, this Lamborghini 350 GT was built on September 19, 1967, and is one of the last examples produced before the change to the larger-engine 400 GT. Displaying a beautiful restoration conducted by Ultimate Motor Works of Florida, this Lamborghini has had just three owners since 1990, and was purchased by the consignor in 2014.

Upon receiving the 350 GT, the consignor’s in-house shop carried out meticulous work to the braking, steering, ignition, and fuel systems. The carburetors were rebuilt, compression test readings were taken, and its oil was also sent to Blackstone Laboratories for analysis. Over 60 pages of receipts and notes document the over $60,000 that was spent during this process.
