‘897 GXO’ was first registered on 1st November 1963 in the name of Mr Rex Makin, solicitor to the Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein and many well known entertainers such as Ken Dodd and Jimmy Tarbuck. He swapped the car for a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud the following year, at which time it passed to a Mr John Nicholls, of Upper Colwall near Malvern, the chairman of a large, family-owned construction and civil engineering company. The Lagonda formed part of a collection of around ten cars, including an Aston Martin DB4 saloon and DB4 convertible.
The factory service record on file shows that Mr Nicholls had the car converted to the current ZF five-speed manual gearbox in February 1967 at 17,463 miles. Correspondence on file r
