Description

Excellent, and detailed restoration by main specialist David Ayre
A thrilling and superb event entrant
Desirable because of the big 6 cylinder engine
Short Chassis
One of the fastest sports cars of its era
The car was meticulously detailed in the style of the famous Lagonda factory race cars
In May 2018 the Lagonda participated in the Mille Miglia as a “Special List” car (cars accepted to participate in the same way as all of the other cars but not be eligible to win the Mille Miglia)
Lagonda’s victory at Le Mans in 1935, under WO Bentley’s energetic leadership, inspired the LG45 model, closely based on the Le Mans Team cars, and introduced the following year.

In September 1935 they were able to announce the LG45.

Deliveries commenced in the spring of 1936.

Lagonda’s new owners were keen to build on the racing successes and commissioned Fox & Nicholl to produce cars for the ’36 Le Mans.

Two four-seaters were built on the new LG45 10ft 9in chassis.

Additionally a couple of two-seater cars were built.

All four cars raced during 1936 but Le Mans was cancelled due to industrial action, the only occasion the race has not run in peacetime.

The new Lagonda management was understandably disappointed and both four-seater cars were broken up in late 1936, leaving the two two-seaters to continue to the present day representing this great era of Lagonda racing history.

Endowed with such an impeccable pedigree, the 4.5-Litre Lagonda quickly established itself as a favorite among the wealthy sporting motorists of its day.

A mere 278 LG45s were produced between 1936 and 1937.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This specific Lagonda was originally bodied as a saloon car but well known Bentley and Lagonda specialist David Ayre restored this car into a LG 45 Teamcar Rep in 2002.

This specific Lagonda is an excellent recreation of those Le Mans team cars and the conversion is done by THE company who is well known as the best of the best.

The car was meticulously detailed in the style of the famous Lagonda factory race cars.

During the restoration a modern clutch conversion was installed to make the car even more easily handling.

Outstanding attention to detail is evident in the trim, engine preparation, panel work, body work and paint finish.

The car was purchased by an important prewar collector, in the Netherlands in 2002.

Cars are the main hobby of this gentleman and quality was more important for him than money so without looking at expenses the Lagonda had to be restored as perfect as possible and at the best possible address.

The Dutch collector is a very close friend of us and we always asked him if he would contact us when his beautiful cars were getting sold.

Due to the age he decided to sell this remarkable car which he had extremely thoroughly restored.

This gentlemen owned the Lagonda between 2002 and 2017 when it was sold via us to a new owner in Waalre, the Netherlands.

We are thankful that we could buy the car back and look forward to make somebody extremely happy with this very rare Lagonda.

Since restoration, the vehicle has participated in several events.
In May 2018 the Lagonda participated in the Mille Miglia as a “Special List” car.
Since the 2013 edition of the Mille Miglia were accepted to participate a further 25 cars that could take part in the Mille Milia in the same way as all of the other cars, but for various reason these cars were on a “Special List” as not be eligible to win the Mille Miglia.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The body of the Lagonda is impressively nice.

The shape is wonderful even as the condition.

The paint is very nice shiny and is in a condition as if the car was finished from restoration recently.

The chrome parts including the massive grille is in a very nice order as well.

The red / body colored wheels fit the car very nicely and are fitted with recent tires.
The gaps are very nice as well and the car has a wonderful shape.

The chassis is the correct 10’ 3” wheelbase which is rare to find but helps the driver to manouvre the car on a very easy way. It’s the perfect length for rallies like the Flying Scotsman.

Due to the size of the former owner, the Lagonda has been made to fit taller persons, resulting in a large seat position for both driver and co-driver.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior of the Lagonda is impressive. The car is fitted with high quality leather seats and a beautiful period correct dashboard.

The car is fitted with 2 tripmasters being a period correct metal Halda Twinmaster as well as a more modern digital Monit (fitted and invisible made under the dashboard).

All meters and gauges in the car have been restored and are all in properly working order.

An extra benefit of the Lagonda is the increased space inside which allows taller persons to fit easily in the car.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The Lagonda is fast, comfortable and straightforward to drive making it ultimately a very rewarding experience.

We have been fortunate to enter the Mille Miglia some years ago with a Lagonda M45 Rapide and had a wonderful time.

We had some experience with pre-war cars but the Lagonda surprised us.

The extremely strong but also powerful engine is amazing.

It is unique that these engine are so well built that they do not overheat, even without an extra cooling fan in a traffic jam.

Driving the Mille Miglia with a Lagonda M45 Rapide is very nice but driving this Lagonda Team Car Recreation is absolutely fantastic due to the fact that the car has a much lower weight.

The handling is therefore much easier and very responsive.

The combination of the power together with the perfect handling makes the car almost a post-war car to drive. It is absolutely fantastic and gives a lot of pleasure.
