Description
"Launched in 1966, the Jensen Interceptor broke away from the company's traditional method of construction that used glass reinforced plastic with the new car now incorporating an all steel body shell. Designed by Carrozzeria Touring, the early cars were built by Vignale before production eventually was carried out at the Jensen works in West Bromwich. Power was delivered by the Chrysler 6276cc V8 through a TorqueFlite automatic transmission and final drive being a Salisbury axle with limited slip differential. A manual gearbox was offered as an option. 1968 saw the addition of power steering and in 1969 the Mk. II was introduced with detail upgrades that included a revised front end and ventilated disc brakes. 1971 saw the introduction of the Mk. III; the engine size was increased to 7212cc and was at this time, the most powerful engine Jensen had produced. The imposing presence, power and distinctive shape that included the wrap around glass rear hatch drew the rich and famous to the marque and famously, Princess Ann owned one. Production ceased in 1976 with a total of 6408 Mk. I, Mk. II and Mk. III Interceptors built between 1966 and 1976.
This particular Jensen Interceptor was purchased by the vendor in February 2015, from a private owner in Guernsey via the well-known restorers, Le Riche in Jersey. At that time, several works were carried out, these included, a replacement steering rack, front shock absorbers, ball joints, a nearside sill and new period Michelin XWX 205/70/VR15 tyres all around including the spare. Further works by La Riche included a brake overhaul, engine mountings and an exhaust manifold gasket replacement. The vendor states “We collected the car and put it on a ferry late that night and drove back to Canterbury from Poole. Early the following morning, my wife and I left for France to go to the Circuit Historique de Laon with friends in their cars, the car did about 500 miles that long weekend, more mileage than it had done in the previous ten years. We have had fun in it and if I am honest, we love it but it is now time for it to go to a new home. “ The history file records that in 1998 this Jensen had a lot of work carried out by Cropredy Bridge Garage, the well-known and respected Jensen specialists and included an engine rebuild and bodywork repairs. Today, the Jensen is presented with blue coachwork and black leather interior. A Mk. II steering wheel is fitted, an attractive item having been sourced at a cost of over £1,000; the original is available with the car. This Jensen Interceptor will arrive at the sale with a UK V5 registration document, a history file with records back to 1983, these records being consistent with the current mileage and we are informed, a fresh MoT test certificate. This Interceptor, with its comfort and awesome power, is offered with a sensible estimate that surely will attract serious interest. Are you able to handle the power?
