The Jeep Wagoneer was the first luxury 4x4, sold and produced until 1991. The original design and origins date back the "Kaiser/Jeep" era of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Originally produced in 1963 the Wagoneer was a "sport utility vehicle" (SUV) decades before the term was even coined, the four-wheel drive Wagoneer saw only minor mechanical changes during its 28-year plus production run, the third longest in U.S. automotive history.
Introduced as a successor to the Willys Jeep Station Wagon that had been built since the end of World War II, the Wagoneer pioneered the sport utility vehicle concept. In spite of its pickup truck chassis and boxy shape it was more carlike than any 4x4 on the market. Compared with offerings from other manufacturers, the Wagoneer's unique luxury set it apart. Based on the Jeep SJ platform, the revolutionary Wagoneer sported an advanced overhead cam inline six-cylinder and later various V-8 powerplants, plus they offered features unheard of at the time in any other mainstream four-wheel drive vehicle, such as an independent front suspension, power steering and automatic transmission.

Destined to be an all-time classic, this particular 1988 Grand Wagoneer began its life in Colorado where it was maintained fastidiously by its first owner until 2000 when it was purchased by its second owner in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

The following quoted paragraph is from the owner in regards to the mileage notes, but we must stress that the accompanying title states the mileage as exempt for this 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

“Having covered only 50,000 miles in its first 12 years the Wagoneer continued to be used sparingly by its second owner who sold it in 2012 to the current owner with approximately 68,000 miles. The current and third owner of record has maintained the Wagoneer to the highest standards and is now offering it for sale with only 72,000 original miles. In the past 2,000 miles the vehicle has received a significant service with many suspension and cosmetic components replaced in order to maintain Wagoneer's superb cosmetic appearance and excellent on-road manners.”

The body is reported as rust-free throughout and appears to be mostly original paintwork with no signs of accidents or issues. The original interior is a stunning example of leather opulence which the Grand Wagoneer introduced to the segment many years before the "Range Rover" was even produced. Among the equipment is a 5.9-liter, 144-hp V-8 engine, automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, roof rack, tilt steering column, aluminum wheels, Michelin tires, Optima battery, woodgrain rear gate and body sides, separate power front seats, center armrest, factory AM/FM/cassette, air conditioning, foglights, dual sideview mirrors; power steering, brakes and windows.

This is a truly superior example of this timeless classic. The Jeep Wagoneer was the only way in 1988 to answer the call of the wild in grand fashion.
