Transmission: 4 gears, Manual gearbox

The XK150 is the big finale of the XK series. What started with the XK120 continued with the XK140 to end up with the last model of this series. Immediately recognisable by its rounded windscreen and the wing line carried higher and more streamlined at the doors pandering to the current taste. The market demanded a car without the loose mudguards look seen in previous models. The higher wing line gave the car a more modern appeal to go with the era.

Our XK150 is an exceptionally fine example. Fully restored and matching numbers, as indicated by the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. This lovely XK150 was supplied by Jaguar Cars in New York on the 18th of March 1960. The car fitted with a seldom-seen 5-speed has lived a nice life. Once in Europe life only got better in the hands of enthusiast owners. This XK was fully restored at the top-level. Brilliant bodywork, a lovely interior and an engine bay you could literally eat your diner off are evidence of this.

To start with its bodywork: it convinces by its very straight panelwork and very fine paintwork. Black is often an awkward colour to get right, this XK150 has succeeded marvellously in obtaining a perfect effect. The panel gaps are nice and straight, it has fine bodywork lines and doors, bonnet and boot lid close properly leaving even gaps. The abundantly present brightwork warrants a concourse accolade. The very fetching wire wheels complete the exterior picture to a tee.

The XK’s interior is stunning. The very high qualitative leather is supple and has developed a light patina. Leather tends to be at its best when used as is the case here. The rest of the interior looks brand spanking new with a stylishly lacquered wooden dashboard and Smiths instruments. The switchgear is in excellent condition and fully functional. The large, thin 4-spoke steering wheel and gear stick for the rare five-speed invites one to make lots of long trips.

The 3.8 litre was fully overhauled and has been very well maintained by brand specialists with a passion for these cars. Because of that level of maintenance, which went a lot further than just the engine, the XK150 drives perfectly. Every classic car feels different, even the same model ones. This XK150 is one belonging to the “it does not get any better” category. The engine sounds and runs purringly, making grateful full use of all available power as well as briskly responding to every command sent through the accelerator pedal. Good road manners depend on more than just the engine, so happily suspension is in very good order. The XK150 always gives the driver the impression of being in a proper sportscar. Good brakes help dissipate all that speed neatly.

Once on the bridge, the car looks good viewed from underneath, with no signs of corrosion, caked dirt or other undesirable issues. This car is right from start to finish. It comes with a large pile of invoices, an original maintenance and service handbook as well as the aforementioned Jaguar Heritage Certificate.

The combination of one of the finest handling XK150’s we know of with the car’s exceptional quality and being matching numbers all make this an extraordinary Jaguar.
