140 mph, 20 more than the XK120 and an enormous top speed when introduced in 1954. The 224 km/hr top speed was not the most important improvement. Extra comfort was afforded by creating more legroom by shifting the engine forwards by 10 centimetres, improved shock breakers and disc brakes. The William Heynes XK120 3.4 litre six-cylinder with twin overhead cams was given his Special Equipment modification treatment which increased the power output to 193 hp. A car for long distances, whether you are touring or driving at high speed.

The 1956 XK140 we have here has been fully restored. Yes, we are well aware of the fact there are restorations and then there are restorations. Our XK140 has has the full body-off treatment as documented in the accompanying restoration photos. The bodywork was taken back to bare metal and restored to the condition it left the factory in, giving it a sharp and stylish definition.
The chassis too was thoroughly seen to, so that we can confidently say you will never again have to worry yourself on that behalf. Following its restoration this XK has not led a heavy life and was very much pampered by its owner.

The DHC’s hood was also replaced. A new frame was used before being freshly clad. In addition to the above the XK’s interior is of a very high quality, with stylish red leather and a wooden dashboard in peak condition.

Naturally the original engine was fully rebuilt before being reacquainted with its chassis. The engine runs beautifully and needs no further tinkering before you can enjoy its brilliant straight-six engine. The rest of mechanical aspect is of course just as fresh, from its brakes through to its steering, suspension and exhaust system. Since its restoration maintenance has been exemplary, leaving us with a car that is as good as new. This XK 140 is raring to start it next chapter.
