- One of the best driving car of the ‘50s an achieved multiple wins in the 24 Le Mans Races
- We have had quite some XK’s over the years (approximately 80 examples!) and can very well compare the looks and driving of these cars

Fresh from their victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jaguar used their competition pedigree to sell the XK140. The principle brochure said “All the accumulated wealth of knowledge and experience gained in the hard school of racing have been built into the new XK140 models which are powered by the famous 3½ litre twin overhead camshaft XK engine.”

Following the six-year run of the XK 120, Jaguar improved upon the successful design.

The new XK 140 debuted with the engine moved forward three inches resulting in increased legroom. This relocated the battery to the inside of the driver’s side fender which again restulted in more space for the driver/co-driver in the cockpit.

Upgrades to the body included a new grill with fewer slats and an integrated Jaguar badge.

Front turn signals were installed on top of the fenders and amber driving lights were positioned just above the bumpers.

The rear trunk lid featured a new central chrome accent and badges that spelled out “Winner Le Mans 1951–1953.”

Color options were Black, Birch Grey, Pastel Green, Pearl Grey, Pacific Blue, British Racing Green, Dove Grey, Suede Green, Red, Lavender Grey, Battleship Grey, Cream, Pastel Blue and Maroon.

The Jaguar XK-140, produced from late 1954 into 1957, is
the rarest XK model, the XK140 is believed to account for just 8,884 of the 30,357-production run of XK models in total.

The XK140 was available as a Fixedhead Coupé, a Drophead Coupé, and a Roadster (or OTS for Open Two Seaters as they were known Stateside).

Of the tiny number of XK140s built, only just 3,354 were Roadsters like this specific example.

Being very familiar with the Jaguar XK 140 we can say that it is one of the best driving cars from the fifties.

We are happy that we have owned the original Works Jaguar XK 140 OTS with which we drove several times the Mille Miglia.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This XK 140 Roadster was first registered the 30th of June 1955.

This example was in the same Dutch collection for the last 30 years and the car has been carefully and regularly maintained.
The Jaguar has been made to drive and maintained to drive.
It’s a very nice example but not a concours car. The technical quality and driving abilities were most important for the former owner resulting in large investments in the technique of the car and this resulted in an absolute superb handling Jaguar XK.

The engine has been recently completely overhauled, so are the brakes, clutch, starter, and all other mechanical parts.
Easy to place on the road thanks to its wing mirrors, the XK140 Roadster sports a full set of weather equipment (hood, sidescreens, tonneau cover) as well as a T key, jack and spare wheel etc.
Used for leisure purposes and on the occasion of some regularity rallies, the car presents itself very well.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The Jaguar is looking very nice. The car has a nice body with nice gaps and nice paint. One can find a spot as this is not a mint concours car but a really nice drivers car.

The combination with the fog lamps make the car a very nice appearance.

The bumpers are in a very nice condition. The window surrounding show a bit of patina but is still very nice.

The car is complete with soft top and even the side windows are coming with the car (often they have been lost).

CONDITION INTERIOR

The entire interior has been period correct renewed and has been restored with with the correct materials.

The Black leather interior suits the outside colour of Cream very nice.

The leather is in a beautiful condition.

All meters, gauges and knobs are working perfectly without hesitation.

ENGINE BAY

When we inspected this Jaguar and understood from the former owner what his intentions with the car were we knew that a lot of money was spend on the technique. This stories were immediately confirmed when the bonnet was opened.

When you look at the engine bay and specifically the engine itself, it is clear that this is a very well prepared car.
Please take a look at the pictures and you will understand what we mean.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

We have had quite some XK’s over the years (approximately 80 examples!) because they look beautiful and they drive very well and being very familiar with the Jaguar XK 140 Roadster we can say that it is one of the best driving cars from the fifties.

The presence of a generously sized luggage compartment simply invite to travel.

We are happy that we have owned the original Works Jaguar XK 140 OTS with which we drove several times the Mille Miglia.

This specific XK presents nicely and is well suited for driving.

During our test, the car gave us complete satisfaction. The steering is precise, the brakes are effective and the engine takes its turns perfectly on all gears.

This beautiful XK 140 Roadster is the perfect sports car to approach the coming season of events or the next year world’s greatest classic car event, the Mille Miglia.
