Description

Transmission: 4 gears, Manual gearbox
Registration number: JA-79-78

140 miles per hour, 20 more than the XK 120 achieved. A tremendous speed at its introduction in 1954. However, the top speed of 224 km/h was not the most significant advancement. The XK 140 was more comfortable than its predecessor. The engine was moved forward by 10 centimetres to provide more legroom, the shock absorbers were improved, and disc brakes were introduced. The 3.4-litre straight-six engine, designed by William Heynes with twin overhead camshafts from the XK120, was equipped with Special Equipment modifications, resulting in a power increase to around 190 horsepower. It was a car designed for long-distance driving, touring, or high-speed travel.

The 1955 XK 140 we are offering here is an XK 140 SE. The XK 140 was already one of the fastest cars of its time, but there was also the option to choose the SE version, featuring a C-Type head. With the SE version, the six-cylinder engine delivered not 190 horsepower at 5,500 rpm but 210 horsepower at 5,750 rpm. A power output that was jaw-dropping at the time. It's worth noting that an XK 140 with a different head is often referred to as SE, but this one was actually rolled out of the factory as an SE, as evidenced by the Jaguar Heritage certificate. An official SE version also includes 2" H8 carburettors, thicker torsion bars, and dual exhaust. The gear change is by manual transmission.

The XK 140 SE has been fully restored, and it shows. This British two-plus-two seater is in fantastic condition, and the warm red bodywork is beautifully painted. It's a stunning car, with numerous chrome details contrasting beautifully against the flat uni-colour of the body.

The interior is equally as beautiful as the exterior. High-quality light grey leather catches the eye. The upholstery is exquisite, displaying a subtle patina. Personally, we prefer this over fresh and overly modern-looking leather: the appearance of this interior is perfect. The wooden dashboard is also in excellent condition, with all the Smiths gauges functioning perfectly, just like the controls and the classic radio. The original wooden steering wheel with four steel spokes is visually stunning.

Driving this XK 140 SE is a very enjoyable experience. It's evident that the car has been in the hands of a true enthusiast who cherished and drove it. A car shouldn't be left idle, and fortunately, this one was regularly used. The suspension, steering, and brakes all feel fantastic. The engine is well-maintained and runs smoothly. Once on the road, the combination of a 210-horsepower six-cylinder engine and the manual five-speed gearbox is more than amazing. It truly is a car for making beautiful long journeys, as this Jaguar can do it all.

What we absolutely want to highlight is the car's history. The last two owners have had the car for a long time. The first owner from 1994 to 2004, and the subsequent owner from 2004 to 2023. Both owners collected stacks of invoices, totalling around 100 invoices. Additionally, the Jaguar Heritage Certificate is also included with the car.
