Jaguar XJS Convertible 4.0 Celebration

“Genuine collector's item.” There’s plenty to celebrate thanks to this, absolutely unique Jaguar XJS Convertible Celebration! The history, maintenance, gear and general condition of this full option 1996 gentleman’s classic reflects pure rarity. The limited edition Jag has been cherished for no less than 23 years by only 3 owners with at least one shared passion: their beautiful XJS Celebration. Now available at Prins Classics. Let the party begin!

History

The last 2 owners are Dutch and have something else in common too: they are both highly appreciated customers at Prins. Before the Convertible became a loyal guest of our company, the Briton drove its kilometers around Madrid. In fact the Jag was delivered new in February 1996 to an aristocratic family from England, who only used the car at their 2nd home in Spain. Snow, brine and road salt have always been a big unknown for the XJS. Some things never change…
The result? A super stylish Jaguar that never had to be restored. The beautiful shape is all natural. Only the bodywork has been professionally repainted once, but the color is completely original. Just like the rest of the car, by the way. The former owner also opted to bring back the technique to the condition of a brand new vehicle in 2016 and payed 12,000 euros (!) to get this job done. Soft-top, boot lid emblems, crankshaft seal, radiator, CD changer and even the Jaguar timer was replaced by an original one. You will find this and much more in the many invoices and documents which are included, as you would expect from a true classic gentleman.

Background & technique

The Celebration version is the run-out model of the XJS and is very limited built. After 22 years of loyal service the curtain fell for the characteristic Coupé and Convertible. After that the Jaguar XK took over. But not without releasing a special edition based on the icon that the XK followed up. With the XJS Celebration, Jaguar celebrated the brand's 60th anniversary. This resulted in a number of exterior, interior and technical upgrades. The XJS Celebration has a modified 4.0 liter straight 6-cylinder engine (AJ16) producing 222 PS and a 4-speed automatic ZF transmission: the same as the later XK had. This combination is still embraced by today’s enthusiasts because of its extremely comfortable and powerful nature.

Interior & exterior

Furthermore, the British party animal can be recognized on the outside by Diamond Turned AeroSport alloy wheels, chrome on the exhaust end pieces, side mirrors and headlight frames, plus a front grille in black. The Jade Green lacquer is super chic and completely spotless. Inside, the Celebration distinguishes itself with sapwood inlaid parts, full leather Oatmeal (beige) upholstery (including steering wheel + center console!) and a matching hood cover. The soft-top is itself is Black and opens / closes electrically (optional at the time!). Other options are the electrically adjustable seats, windows and mirrors. But also the Cruise Control, air conditioning, ABS, airbag, central door locks, radio, power steering and of course the “leaping” Jaguar logo on the hood. Finally, the gear knob, has a wooden finish, just like parts of the steering wheel. So in terms of luxury, it cannot be missed that this car is really something special too. Something that has to be celebrated with a visit to Holland, don’t you think?

Kind regards,
Prins Classics
