When launched in 1989 Jaguar suggested to potential buyers of the 6 litre XJR S that upon delivery of their car they enrolled on a high speed driving course in order to tame the 322bhp V12 engine the car was fitted with. However it was not just brute force that this car offered, in keeping with a Jaguar tradition it gave unrivalled amounts of luxury and tranquillity as well performance. Fitted with air conditioning, RDS stereo and electrically adjustable seats the car's near silent and silky-smooth engine was more that a match to the equivalent Porsche or Ferrari and at a price of just £45,000 was nearly half the price.
It is not surprising that the performance and handling enhancements were developed for Jaguar by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, a team that already brought many racing successes
