Description

"BMW had its Motorsport division and Mercedes had AMG, so it stood to reason that Jaguar should have its own performance division if it was to compete with the European powerhouses. In 1988, that division was launched under the name JaguarSport, a 50/50 joint venture between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw’s TWR Group, with the mission of developing and producing a range of modified Jaguars for the British and European markets. The signature product was the Jaguar XJR-S. While the XJR-S may have had the appearance of a standard Jaguar XJR coupé, nearly every mechanical part was unique, based around a 6.0 litre version of Jaguar’s V12, an engine which was not available in any other production Jaguar. Each car left the factory as a hand-built unit from JaguarSport’s manufacturing facility at Bloxham, which would have been unheard of, had it not been the place where JaguarSport built the legendary XJ220. The engine was rated at 318hp and was 700cc larger than the previous 5.3 litre V12. A modified intake system and a low-loss true dual exhaust system was part of the car’s advanced specification. The suspension also received a full working over at TWR. Coil spring rates increased and Bilstein shocks, front and rear, were specially tuned for the XJR-S. Externally, the cars were modified with an aggressive bodykit. A host of modifications inside included a Connolly Autolux leather interior. With only 115 built in righthand drive, this extremely rare example has been owned by the current vendor for the past six years. A Jaguar enthusiast who searched for a long time before finding a good condition, unmolested example which he has maintained and improved over the duration of his ownership. Testament to the car’s condition, it was featured on the cover of Jaguar World magazine with a two page spread in 2015. The fastidious owner has maintained the car regardless of cost and it comes with plenty of invoices and history including the magazine the car was featured in.
Always garaged, this beautifully example has been ceramic wax polished and the wheels are also ceramic coated. Supplied with a V5C registration document together with a substantial history file, the car has a current MoT test certificate valid until April 2020. This is a rare chance to acquire the ultimate evolution of the XJS series, hand-built in the legendary Jaguar Motorsport factory."
