Description

"Officially unveiled on 8th October, 1986, the XJ40 was an all-new redesign of the XJ to replace the Series III, although the two model ranges were sold concurrently until the Series III was discontinued in 1992. The XJ40 used the Jaguar independent rear suspension arrangement and featured several technological enhancements (such as an electronic instrument cluster). Initially, only two engines were offered across the XJ40 models: a 2.9 litre and a 3.6 litre version of the AJ6 inline-six. The curvaceous lines of the outgoing Series XJ were replaced by the more angular, geometric shape of the XJ40. The nose of the car would accommodate either matched pairs of round headlights or rectangular single units; the latter were fitted to the higher-specification Sovereign and Daimler trim levels. The Sovereign model came equipped with significantly more features than the base XJ6. Included was air conditioning, headlamp washers, a six-speaker sound system, rear self-levelling suspension, anti-lock braking system and box inlaid burr walnut wood trim.
This fabulous Jaguar was originally registered on 29th November 1991 and is a one owner vehicle. Having covered a mere 39,105 miles from new, this Sovereign presents in delightful condition. Supplied originally by Weybridge Autos with an invoice price of £40,610.61 this example is finished in Flamenco Red with Doeskin leather interior and red piping, a factory sunroof is also fitted. The original service books are present with 20 stamps, originally by Weybridge Autos and then by H.A.Fox in Guildford. The last service stamp was in November 2007 at 37,881 miles. For the last 12 years or so she has been in part of a private collection and has been dry stored correctly. The vendor has frequently run the engine to operating temperature and has moved the vehicle regularly. Good quality Jaguar XJ40s’ are becoming increasingly rare to find and a low mileage, one owner example such as this is sure to create interest amongst the Jaguar fraternity.
