Less comfort, less luxury, less weight (only 940 kg), but a whole lot more fun. The Kougar Sports MKII is especially designed for the fan who doesn’t want anything else but experience the ultimate driving sensation. How on earth is that possible with a retro machine, having a 100% DNA match with the 1964 6-cylinder Jaguar S-Type? A complete transformation in the late 80s made something really special of this classic. Including the only correct color for a real icon from the UK: British Racing Green. Time to wave your flags.

History
The Kougar Sports Mk2 on your screen started its career as a full-fledged limousine in the mid-1960s. An idea from Rick Stevens, however, ensured that these and about 800 other Jaguars were converted to a 2-seater roadster with retro looks. Stevens realized his dream in 1979 after founding Kougar Cars. For the development of his very 1st project, the Kougar Sports, he was inspired by the beauty of the legendary Frazer Nash TT and Healey Silverstone. The visual similarities with these models are strong, but underneath the Sports MKII is a Jaguar in heart and soul. It lasted until 1988 before this specific car entered the road in its current form. In 1999 our Kougar became Dutch property. The retro classic has been part of a private car collection of a loyal Prins customer during the last few years.

Exterior
It doesn’t get much more old school than the Kougar Sports Mk2. Apart from the “loose” fenders and round headlights, the shape of the roadster is easy to confuse with the F1 cars from the 50s. This includes striking details such as the side pipe and Brookland windscreen, although the Kougar has two of them since it’s not a single seater. The British Racing Green lacquer makes it even look faster. Personally, for us it’s a great relief that these kind of cars still exist, even in 2022.

Interior
The cockpit of the Kougar Sports is at least as pure. Every tiny detail is fully focused on unadulterated driving pleasure. Of course, the dashboard has large analog meters, toggle switches and a wooden steering wheel with 3 aluminum spokes. Dash and fire extinguisher traditionally have the traditional green paint, while the beige carpets and seats look luxurious, but certainly no less practical. Bright blue seatbelts keep the driver and passenger in their places when the Sports MKII is pushed to its limits.

Technique & performance
The shiny aluminum gear shift is connected to a fine manual gearbox. Foot on the throttle and the powerful Jaguar 6-cylinder takes off like a rocket. After all, the natural aspired inline engine doesn’t have to move too many kilos: about 940. We don't need to explain what the consequences are in case of the handling of the Kougar Sports Mk2. The classic dives perfectly and very precisely into each and every corner. The sharper, the better. The faster, the more exciting! Despite the fact that the Sports is a rarity with a production limited of only 800, it’s by far the most successful Kougar that Stevens has ever built. Get in and immediately understand why.

Kind regards,
Prins Classics.
