Description

"Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type was nothing short of a revelation. With its heady blend of supercar performance, breathtaking styling and low price tag, the newcomer left rivals reeling and customers clamouring. Early sportscar racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori amongst others helped cement its reputation. Built as a monocoque with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine, the model's combination of all-round independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes gave it excellent road holding and handling capabilities. Fed by triple SU HD8 carburettors and topped with a 'straight port' DOHC cylinder head, its indomitable 3781cc, straight-six engine was quoted as developing some 265bhp and 260lbft of torque. Allied to a four-speed Moss gearbox, it reputedly enabled the E-type to sprint from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and onto 150mph aesthetically beautiful yet viciously quick, the E-type remains for many the ultimate production Jaguar.
This truly unique and excellent Series I E-Type has been lovingly and painstakingly developed to a very fast road semi-lightweight specification. First registered on 7th July 1966, this 4.2 litre example of the 2+2 is perfect for the taller gentleman being able to get in and race his E-Type whereby in a Coupé or Roadster height over 6ft may trouble the driving position. Finished in Old English White with red race livery sporting the number seven, this example had its semi lightweight bodywork completed by RS Panels with the original build and engine work completed and fettled by renowned Jaguar specialists, Chris Window, Peter Hugo and Greg Lander of Winspeed. The trimming, in blood red, is not to be missed and was completed by Mike Thomas, the result is a truly special to drive and special to admire Series I example. Our vendor purchased the car in bits is 2017 from a classic race driver who cut his teeth with classic Porsche and Cobra’s but due to work commitments couldn’t complete the E-Type so with the help of Greg Lander our vendor set about completing the car. Some of the upgrades performed on the car include a Quaife diff, genuine Dunlop magnesium wheels, bespoke Rob Beere race edition con-rods, hi-lift race camshafts and the bodywork includes aluminium panels to cut the weight with widebody styling and a roll-cage fitted for safety and rigidity. Currently tuned and set up for ‘very fast road’, the vendor describes it verging on frighteningly fast and quite rightly he pointed out that the car could not be built for anything near the estimate. Described by professionals as an incredibly well put together lightweight car that will show a clean pair of heels to most other cars on the road, this is a car that we truly recommend viewing to appreciate the offering.
