Iso equipped the Grifo with powerful Chevrolet Corvette engines, ensuring reliability and autostrada speeds upwards of 140 mph, making it one of the world’s fastest production cars at the time, as well as a unique blend of sleek Italian design and unrestrained American power. Sightings of Iso Grifo GL Series I coupes are exceedingly rare, with approximately 330 units built. That scarcity makes this sophisticated, beautiful, and athletic car an acquisition opportunity well worth considering.

This example was completed on 21 March 1967 and delivered new to its first owner in Italy. It left the factory equipped with the desirable 350 hp, 327 cu. in. "Hi-Po" V-8 engine. Power from the Corvette-derived engine is sent to a Borg Warner four-speed manual transmission and distributed through a 3:07.1 rear axle. According to an Iso Grifo registry publication, this example was featured in the 1973 Italian film The Violent Professionals.

Today, the stunning fastback styling by Bertone is complemented by subtle exterior features, including a driver’s sideview mirror and knock-off Borani wire wheels. The interior is completed in black leather with bucket seats and leather-wrapped center console. It features a wood-grain dashboard which houses Veglia Borletti instrumentation, clock, and an AM/FM radio. A wood-rimmed steering wheel with Iso center cap, completes the beautifully trimmed interior. Amenities include air conditioning, power windows, and power brakes. A full-size spare can be found in the trunk.

The Iso Grifo’s transatlantic heritage, shared with a small but desirable group of grand tourers and sports cars of the era, is more than an intriguing historical note; on the more pragmatic side, the model’s American powertrain makes it affordable to maintain and relatively simple to work on, as parts are readily available. This unique blend of sleek Italian design and unrestrained American power make the Iso Grifo an attractive proposition.

Please note that upon further inspection this car was not completely restored in 2017, it was more accurately partially restored.
