Original Italian plate
The "Innocenti Mini" was produced under license by Innocenti of Lambrate (Italy) between 1965 and 1975.
Compared to the English originals, the Innocenti versions (including the Cooper) had some differences. They had more equipped and better finished interiors, several external components of different shapes, for example in the design of the headlight frames, the grille and the rear trunk, modified to accommodate the Italian square plates in use at the time. Many internal and external details were produced by Italian brands. Also with regard to the mechanical part, different choices were made, such as the adoption of the brake booster on all Cooper models, regardless of the displacement and a longer axle ratio.
From the mechanics of the original Mini, the Milanese company also drew a totally separate model, the "Innocenti Nuova Mini" (produced in over 300.000 units) also identified by the market with the names of "Mini Bertone", "Mini 90" and "Mini DeTomaso".
