Description

"The Shelby AC Cobra achieved an iconic status, its powerful V8 soon attaining competition success throughout the world and in so doing; original examples have risen to astronomical price levels. This has led to a plethora of copies stretching back many years but one thing is certain, there is quality and then there is real quality. Gardner Douglas Sports Cars is an engineering firm that has attained a reputation for the highest quality engineering with all of their products, especially with their Cobra replica GD 427 Mk. III and they certainly stand amongst the highest level of quality manufacturers of this type of replica motor car.
We are delighted to offer this rather special example of the Gardner Douglas GD 427 Mk. III (the Mk. III emulating the original 289 Mk. III) that was factory built in 2000 and used as the official Gardner Douglas demonstrator. This actual car has featured in many magazine articles under the registration A11 MLM whilst today it wears a private plate, 500 LXB. The specification is impressive and includes a small block (5.7 litre, 350 cubic inch (that’s small?)) Chevrolet V8 engine with Edelbrock performance package mated to a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox and a Jaguar LS90 limited slip differential.  The exhaust system was designed in-house and fits neatly under the car, providing a subtle V8 rumble of thunder under power allowing enjoyment of the engine note without being intrusive; an advantage during long distance touring. A full set of weather equipment includes a hood, tonneau, side screens and tinted sun visors. The coachwork is finished in dark blue with a contrasting cream leather interior whilst, as a finishing touch, a set of Halibrand 17 inch replica three piece alloy wheels with recent new Toyo tyres are fitted. A rolling road print out held on file and carried out by Northampton Motor Sport, shows a power output of 331.8 bhp at 6000 rpm. With all AC Cobra style cars, the devil is in the detail and this one is no exception; we strongly urge you to inspect all aspects of the car and its history file. The interior and dashboard are well laid out and a roll hoop for the driver and passenger provides mounting for a useful head restraint. This example is complete with a UK V5C registration document, old MoT test certificates, a current MoT test certificate valid until October 2018, a large history file with magazine articles on record, a Gardner Douglas build and parts CD and a purpose made ‘Covercraft’ car cover.
These Gardner Douglas motor cars provide performance ability with refined handling, ride and interior comfort and are, arguably, even better than the real thing …..  but we will leave that up to you to decide. With circa 15,000 miles since build, this fine example is ready to enjoy straight away."
