Description

During the 1930s, Edsel Ford served as president of Ford Motor Company and his keen artistic sensibilities and design prowess were a perfect complement to those possessed by Ford stylist and former yacht designer E.T. “Bob” Gregorie. Perhaps their combined talents were never more fully apparent than in the fresh and modern styling of the company’s automobiles for 1937. Several of the design cues introduced on the landmark 1936 Lincoln-Zephyr now appeared on the mainstay Ford model lineup, providing a thoroughly modern, aerodynamic look with Art Deco flair.

Ford’s most popular open model for 1937 was the Deluxe Cabriolet, with seating for up to three inside the passenger compartment, plus up to two more in the standard rumble seat. Priced from $720 new, the Deluxe Cabriolet was only offered in the 85 hp Model 78 V8 model range for 1937, supplemented by the slightly costlier Deluxe Club Cabriolet, which offered a trunk.

Offered in highly original and “garage find” condition, this 1937 Ford V8 Deluxe Cabriolet is a highly desirable offering for early Ford V8 collectors. While not currently running, it should respond well to sympathetic detailing, preservation, and mechanical recommissioning. Alternatively, it will provide a very fine basis for full restoration.

*Please note that this Lot, like all vehicles in this Auction, has been in long-term static storage and may not be currently operational. It will require mechanical attention prior to any road use.
