Description

"The Ford Thames 400E was introduced in 1957. Production of the range continued until September 1965, by which time a total of 187,000 had been built. Publicity for the model included hiring the Cy Laurie band to make the promotional short film 'Band Wagon', in 1958, preserved in the 'Ford Film and Video Collection' at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. Within only a short period of time a wide variety of special bodies were available from outside suppliers, with Ford approval for these being confirmed in many cases by their inclusion in the Ford Motor Company's official glossy brochures. Mobile shops, milk floats, ambulances, flat platform trucks with generators or compressors and box vans, and the popular pick-up trucks all appeared.
This delightful Thames 400E is fitted with a pick-up body and has benefitted from a total restoration. Originally registered on 11th May 1960 this pick-up presents extremely well in Orange and is sign written R and M Gibbs of St. Stephen. We are informed that this 15CWT example drives well and is both attractive and practical. MSL 656 would make an ideal display vehicle or be perfect for classic car meetings. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and offered without reserve this rare Ford is certain to create a lot of interest.
