Description

Chassis No. 1ZVHT89S485123874

Introduced for the 2007 model year as the successor to the famed SVT Cobra, the GT500 marked the happy return of Carroll Shelby's name to a Mustang after over 35 years. It was equipped with a small-block twin-cam 5.4-litre V-8, essentially a mildly detuned version of the Ford GT supercar engine, with a wet-sump oil system, cast-iron block, forged steel crankshaft and I-beam connecting rods, and Roots-type supercharger, exhaling through a tuned stainless-steel X-pipe exhaust and mated to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. With 500 hp and 480 lb/ft of torque on tap it was, at the time, the most powerful production Mustang ever built, and was brought to a halt by Brembo ventilated disc brakes. It looked the part, as well, with a domed hood with heat extractors, front air splitter, ducktail-style rear spoiler, and machined aluminum wheels, as well as Cobra sport bucket seats and full power accessories.

The GT500 convertible offered here has been owned by Jim Taylor since he purchased it new from Brown's Ford of Johnstown, New York, in September 2007. Lightly tuned, it has been used occasionally, mainly by one of Mr. Taylor's daughters during the summer months, and remains in very good overall condition with 11,966 miles recorded at the time of cataloging. Shod with new tires, it is accompanied by a service and history file, including the original window sticker, delivery paperwork, and maintenance documentation.

Offering superb handling and performance, very much in keeping with the GT500 heritage, this is a very thrilling modern Mustang, much-enjoyed by the Taylor family for over 15 years and sure to delight a new caretaker as well.
