Description

There are few cars on the road quite as impressive as a Mustang, specifically a late 1960s fastback Mustang. From starring roles on the silver screen to the bedroom walls of teenagers across the globe, the Mustang Fastback is synonymous with cool.

The Mustang brought power and performance to the masses and it also brought Ford significant sales success, and subsequently launched a whole segment of medium sized performance “pony-cars”. The most favoured though are the fastback models. Last year alone we sold over 15 of these Fastbacks here at Duke. The market for good examples remains rightfully strong.

Welcome to this 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback J code 302, built at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan Plant on March 1st 1968, and finished in Presidential Blue over Blue vinyl bucket-seats. On the outside of this factory GT example, you’ll find the aforementioned Blue paint work complimented by a white accent striping and a louvred bonnet, a factory option!

The wheels are brand new Magnum 500s which perfectly compliment the exterior colour scheme. They have just been fitted with brand new tyres too. The paint presents well but is not free from blemishes, as to be expected of a 56 year old vehicle but is inline with the condition expected of a well-loved 45,000 mile classic.

Step into the cabin and you’re greeted by ‘68 correct, twin post headrest, two-tone blue bucket seats; a floor console believed to be from a 1967 model and a 4-speed manual transmission. This is not the original transmission for the car, though it was supplied new as a manual, it would have originally been supplied with a three speed.

The interior presents well, but there are some signs of age. However, the addition of factory power steering makes this GT an absolute breeze to peddle around town.

Popping the hood, you’re presented with a refreshed 302ci V8 - rebuilt with oversized pistons and renewed throughout as well as being fitted with an uprated Fast distributor to ensure precise ignition timing and reliability. The engine bay is clean and tidy and the engine was rebuilt in 2021 at cost in excess of £6,500.

There is history file to go with this car, including records of the running-in procedure for the rebuilt engine as well as a Marti report to confirm this vehicle's originality, as well as invoices big and small. This is clearly a well loved example that benefits from improvements like power assisted CSRP front disk-brakes making it a usable and enjoyable classic.

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
