Henry Ford started more than a transport revolution for the masses when he designed the Ford Model T. Almost immediately it was set-upon by racers who appreciated its financial accessibility and its seemingly infinite tuning potential. When Ford’s Model A was announced in 1927, the would-be racers were more than ready with their plans to go racing. One of America’s indigenous motor sports was oval racing – literally thousands of 1-mile short circuits had sprung up all over the country – no self respecting town was without one. This was a hard – and dangerous – discipline, which drew in the crowds on a Saturday night.
