Description
As the vehicle that firmly put North America on wheels, Henry Ford’s Model T stands proudly as one of the most versatile and historically important motor vehicles ever built. Fitted when new with “Six-Post Express” commercial bodywork produced by the Martin-Parry Corporation which had operations in York, Pennsylvania, and Indianapolis, Indiana, this 1923 Ford Model T was purchased new by A.J. Gibson & Son Grocer in 1923 and faithfully delivered groceries in the Waltham, Massachusetts, area until the 1950s. Next, it was used as a service vehicle for a painter named Mr. J. Shaw before being placed into storage in 1957. In 2015, it re-emerged and has enjoyed the care of two attentive owners ever since.
Traces of lettering from its first two owners remain on the body, the original side curtains remain in outstanding condition notwithstanding the vehicle’s age, the left front fender was replaced in the distant past with a 1925-vintage item, and the original differential was swapped for a unit from 1915. Two period Firestone “Oldfield” tires accompany the venerable Ford. According to the consignor, the Model T has been maintained in good running order and runs on its magneto-type ignition system, which includes an accessory oiler to the passenger side of the engine. Featured in the January/February 2018 edition of the Model T Times, this captivating time capsule is ready to be enjoyed and appreciated.
