Seldom has the burden of expectation weighed more on a new car than with the second-generation Ford GT. Inspired both conceptually and aesthetically by the legendary four-time 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning GT40, the Ford also followed on from its first-generation predecessor of 2005, one of the most accomplished supercars of modern times.

In the same way that its race-winning forebear was made, Ford’s management acknowledged that the development of its new GT car would require input from a suitably experienced and highly skilled technical partner. Racing would once again be integral to the programme, which encompassed an emotional—and victorious—return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016, topping the LM GTE Pro class exactly 50 years after its landmark maiden victory. Following an extensive evaluation process, Multimatic Inc. was selected for the role. The Ontario-based operation possessed invaluable experience in developing small-volume road cars such as the Aston Martin One-77 and RUF CTR3, as well as boasting impeccable motorsport credentials.

Multimatic’s new design featured a bespoke carbon fibre monocoque chassis, onto which front and rear aluminium sub-frames were mounted. Power was provided by an uprated version of Ford’s versatile 3.5-litre V-6 Ecoboost engine. The unit boasted twin-turbochargers, 647 horsepower, and five driver-adjustable driving modes. Power was channelled through a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch gearbox, while hydraulically adjustable pushrod suspension permitted the car’s primary suspension components to be moved inboard, thereby enabling aerodynamic optimisation of the carbon fibre bodywork. With a kerb weight of 1,450 kilograms, the resulting performance was predictably awe-inspiring; 100 km/h was achieved in under three seconds, with a top speed just shy of 350 km/h.

As a desirable limited-edition Carbon Series variant, this stunning example benefits from a lightweight titanium exhaust system, polycarbonate rear hatch, carbon fibre wheels and titanium wheel nuts. Such improvements afford a weight reduction of 18 kilograms relative to the standard GT. Furthermore, it is also equipped with a raft of desirable optional extras including Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, air suspension, suspension lifting system, adjustable pedals, adjustable steering wheel, navigation system, rear view camera, and a retractable rear spoiler.

As a 2022-specification example, it is also equipped with the later, more powerful 660 horsepower engine and was delivered to its German first owner in August of that year. Remarkably, it has remained in their ownership since, having covered just 20 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. Entrusted to Multimatic UK for a comprehensive pre-delivery service in March 2022, this represents a rare opportunity to purchase a GT in “as new” condition, accompanied as it is by its factory manuals, toolkit, and battery charger.
