Ford Motor Company created the GT to celebrate the automaker’s 100th anniversary. Its development coincided with a wave of both fresh thinking and retro-inspired design that saw several nameplates reappear in the product line. The GT40 concept upon which the Ford GT was based debuted at the North American International Auto Show in 2002. Its design and name both paid tribute to the company’s legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning GT40 racecar of four decades prior.
By the end of 2004, production had begun on the low-slung, mid-engine supercar, which was by then simply called the GT. Each one started life in Norwalk, Ohio and was completed at Ford’s own SVT facility in Michigan. At its heart was Ford’s all-aluminum 5.4-liter V-8 engine equipped with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger, capable of producing 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. A top speed of 205 mph and a 0–60 sprint of 3.3 seconds elevated the GT into the same echelon as other period supercars such as the Porsche Carrera GT and the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. Just over 4,000 cars were built from 2004 to 2006, with 2,011 completed for the 2006 model year.
The 2006 Ford GT offered here was built on 25 May 2006 and is one of only 222 from that model year finished in Centennial White Clearcoat, and one of 218 with Sonic Blue GT stripes. It came from the factory well specified with $13,600 in optional equipment, including BBS forged and painted lightweight aluminum wheels, Gun Metal Grey painted brake calipers, the Sonic Blue GT stripes, and a McIntosh Audiophile System. It further features a high-quality rear bumper delete kit from Cool Tech and a Heffner Performance aftermarket exhaust system.
This unique GT is now offered with a Ford certificate of manufacture, a Deluxe Marti Report by marque expert Marti Auto Works, and marketing materials still in their wrapper. As technology has advanced and numerous supercars have come and gone in the 18 years since its introduction, the Ford GT remains eminently exciting, highly sought-after for its stunning design, impressive driving dynamics and, perhaps most of all, its raw, analogue appeal as a high-performance homage to Ford’s legendary racing pedigree.
Please note that due to California emissions, this vehicle must be sold to a dealer or out-of-state resident.
