Approaching its centennial in 2003, Ford was in search of projects to celebrate great moments in its history. Perhaps no event in the company’s storied past was more gratifying than the Ford GT40’s 1966 Le Mans podium sweep and its overall wins from 1967 to 1969. In 2002 at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford unveiled the GT40 concept car to tremendous critical acclaim. It was designed by Camilo Pardo, under the guidance of J. Mays and with the direct involvement of Carroll Shelby.

From the outset, this limited-production model was destined to be a true American supercar. Based on a lightweight aluminum space frame and aluminum bodywork with a mid-mounted, hand-built 550 hp 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 and Ricardo six-speed transaxle, the new GT was capable of 3.4-second blasts to 60 mph, the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph. With outstanding mid-engine handling characteristics, powerful braking, and excellent Ford reliability, the GT outperformed many of its supercar contemporaries.

For 2006, Ford added a limited-edition Heritage Paint option reminiscent of JW Automotive/American Gulf Oil’s Ford GT P/1075, the 1968 and 1969 Le Mans-winning GT40. The Heritage Blue body with Epic Orange nose and center stripe is one of the most memorable and popular liveries in Ford racing history. Large white roundels on the doors, nose, and tail, and an included number package allowed the owner to choose a racing number. This paint package was available only for the 2006 model year and just 343 examples were built.

This spectacular 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition remains in pristine condition, having covered just 116 miles at the time of cataloguing. It was built with four factory options – McIntosh stereo, lightweight forged alloy wheels, red painted brake calipers, and Heritage Edition paint. According to the $174,595 sticker still affixed to the passenger side window, the car was shipped new to Altavista Motors in Altavista, Virginia. It was then sold to William Mitzell Ford of Waynesboro, Georgia. The GT retains its factory-applied production stickers, window sticker, and protective coverings for seats and steering wheel. The car’s certificate of origin, unused livery package, car cover, books, keys and accessories are included in the sale.

This 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition is the ultimate expression of Ford’s first-generation supercar. With its incredibly low miles, and having been equipped with all the most desirable options, this car represents the extraordinarily rare opportunity to acquire a nearly new 2006 Ford GT in 2022.
