Description
In 1966, Ford’s GT40 Mk II ended Ferrari’s dominance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an impressive 1-2-3 finish. Nearly 40 years later, Ford revived the styling of the car that changed motor sports history with the introduction of the Ford GT. Originally designed as a “heritage” concept car in anticipation of Ford Motor Company’s centennial year, production of the GT began in fall 2004, with a limited number offered for the 2005 and 2006 model years. In addition to styling cues taken from the original GT40, the Ford GT featured a mid-mounted V-8 engine, however, the new car boasted four camshafts, fuel injection, and a supercharger.
Of the 4,500 units planned, only 4,038 GTs were eventually built by Ford, with only 171 originally finished in the vibrant Speed Yellow livery found on this excellently preserved, low-mileage example. Nearly 15 years after it was assembled, this 2006 GT remains in pristine, virtually as-delivered condition. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer displayed only 123 miles and the interior retains its factory-installed protective plastic. In addition, this car features all four available options, including black racing stripes, BBS wheels, black calipers, and a McIntosh stereo system. Accompanying the sale are the car cover, window sticker, keys, owner’s manual, and battery tender. Also included is a CARFAX Vehicle History Report, which notes that a prior owner addressed the factory air bag recall. With its rare color scheme, limited mileage, and all four factory options, this Ford GT ticks all the boxes for collectability.
