Description
The Escort RS Cosworth is the sports (competition) variant of the European Escort, with the first 2’500 examples built to homologate the car for the World Rally Championship in Group A, where Ford participated between 1993 and 1998. From 1992 to 1996, the Escort RS Cosworth was available as a street version in very limited numbers. The smaller turbo-driven cars were not recognised by the FIA. Only examples built before the 1st of January 1993 correspond to the “homologation special variant” and boast a large rear spoiler. Later series-produced examples were available without the spoiler, although most clients ordered the car with it. From the 19th of February 1992 to the 12th of January 1996, 7’145 examples were produced. The car offered is a Swiss delivery and was handed over to its first owner on the 12th of January 1995 through the Sennhof Garage in Rothrist. In January 1996, with around 14’000 kilometres driven, the RS ended up with its second owner who passed it on to a fan in June 1997 within 30’000 kilometres. He commissioned Eggenberger Motorsport to bring the engine, which by then had 40’000 kilometres on its back, to a more civilised 264 horsepower “Stage One”. In addition, the Escort’s suspension was slightly lowered with the help of Eibach springs (all approved in the car‘s registration of course). In July 2008 the Ford was taken over by the vendor within then 66’000 kilometres driven. Since then, the bolide has only covered an additional around 4’000 kilometres but was regularly maintained. In July 2022 at 69’664 kilometres the cambelt was replaced and therefore no additional maintenance is required at this time. With four owners, roughly 70’000 kilometres driven and a full service booklet, the Cosworth is in good to very good and thoroughly cared-for original condition with the last MOT completed in October 2023.
