Description
"The Ford Escort is a small family car that was manufactured from 1968 to 2004 and was produced in six different model derivatives. The fourth version of the Ford Escort was launched in March 1986, with only a small number of changes over its predecessor. Optional new features included a mechanical anti‐lock braking system (standard on RS Turbo models), a fuel computer on fuel-injected models, and a heated windscreen. These changes were welcome at a time when the Escort was faced with a host of new competitors; General Motors had brought out a new version of the Vauxhall Astra 18 months earlier, shortly after Volkswagen had introduced the Mk. II Golf. As well as an all new interior, a new derivative of the CVH engine was introduced, as well as numerous suspension tweaks to address the long standing criticisms of the Escort's handling and ride quality. In 1988 Ford developed an electronic fuel injection system, this was further enhanced with the introduction of the EFI model in the last year of production, of which this example is one such model.Presented in Radiant Red with Shadow cloth trim, this time warp iconic XR3i has been owned by our vendor since 1992. We are informed the car is completely standard with all original factory panels, just as it was when it rolled off the production line, upon inspection this is hard to doubt. The information about the build can all be found on the original order sheet contained within the history file. Originally supplied to Sandcliffe Garage of Nottingham, the car was sold on 23rd June 1990 to a Mr Cottingham in Ilkeston, Derby. This is the village where the car has remained to this day with our seller. Our vendor purchased the car, locally, from Mr Cottingham with just 9,550 miles on the clock. He used the car until in 1998, when it was taken off the road and placed into professional storage with the mileage at 30,724, according to the MoT test certificate. Except for being taken for its annual MoT tests, this XR3i has remained in storage ever since. Presented in absolutely fabulous condition throughout, this car is accompanied by the radio code and key codes in the original book pack, a fully stamped service booklet up until the car was taken off the road, previous MoT test certificates and invoices. We think this example is amongst the very best that can be found and should prove very popular with Ford enthusiasts and collectors, viewing is strongly recommended."
