Description

Originally registered in Spain, the car is understood to have gone into storage in 1999/2000Imported into the UK in October 2016 and purchased by the current owner and a well-known RS enthusiast, UK-registeredLeft-hand drivenon-custom model without a sunroof, no central locking, winding windows and opening rear side windowsCommensurate condition throughout for the indicated 47,000 km(29,000 miles)The car has been sympathetically re-commissioned, fully stripped, repainted, with a turbo rebuildand a new fuel tankA contender for RS Concours 'Expert Category'Featured in 'Rallye News', the RS Owners Club magazine, January/February 2019Based on the success of the previous model, the Series 2 Escort RS Turbo (1986-1990) was more suited to the road, whereas the earlier car was a bit of a 'homologation special'. Many new features were adopted for the Series 2 including utilising the 1600cc fuel-injected CVH engine taken from the S1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garret T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch and improved KE Jetronic unit and inter-cooler. Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The S2 car produced an impressive 132bhp at 5750 rpm, with maximum torque of 133 lb/ft produced at 2750 rpm, giving it ample performance with a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds. The car presented here is a left-hand drive, 1988 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 which wasoriginally registered in Spain andis understood to have gone into storage in 1999/2000 which is where it was discovered in fantastic original condition. It was subsequentlyimported into the UK in October 2016, UK registered and purchased by the current owner,a well-known RS enthusiast. It'sa desirable non-custom model without a sunroof, no central locking, winding windows and opening rear side windows. The overall integrity and condition of the car is wholly commensurate withthe indicated 47,000 km (29,000 miles)and, whilst in the UK, it has been sympathetically re-commissioned, fully stripped, repainted and has benefitedfrom a turbo rebuild and a new fuel tank. Now intip-top condition, this great and now rare,hot-hatch is surely a contender for the RS Concours Expert Category. It was featured in Rallye News, the RS Owners Club magazine (January/February 2019) generatingmuch praise. This superb examplecar offers a new owner a very economical way of owning and showing these very special Fords.
