New to Ford’s top-of-the-line Crestline series for 1954 was the Skyliner, a Victoria hardtop coupe with a glass roof section over the front seat. “Glamorous Anywhere!” bragged the factory brochure, and it was right. The blue-green tinted glass admitted “a soft, diffused light, yet filter[ed] out 60% of the sun’s rays,” or so Ford claimed; it gave the interior an unusual, soft green glow. In an era obsessed with Jet Age design features and, especially, glass bubble canopies, the Skyliner sold more than 13,000 copies.

This Crestline Skyliner features an older restoration, but it presents nicely, finished in Sandstone White and Cadet Blue metallic paint accented by beautiful brightwork. Exterior features include windshield washers, color-matched fender skits, and a Continental kit. The car rides on wide whitewall tires featuring factory wheel covers. The Skyliner is powered by a Y-Block V-8 with and upgraded four-barrel carburetor, Offenhauser finned aluminum valve covers, and a dual exhaust. The engine is backed by a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

A one-year-only model, the 1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner captivated the aviation-obsessed 1950s buyers with its unique partial glass-roof design, making it one of the more sought-after models for Ford collectors today.
