In sport mode, a generator driven by a 156 kW (212 hp) Ecotec turbo engine from General Motors with a displacement of two litres delivers additional power in order to increase the overall performance and extend the range of 81 km by 400 km.

The car was built from June 2011 to November 2012 by the contract manufacturer Valmet Automotive in Finland, who also produced the Boxster and Cayman models for Porsche.

The Fisker Karma can be operated as a purely electric car (the manufacturer calls this “stealth mode”) and then has a range of 81 km and a top speed of 153 km/h and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
When the sport mode is selected, in which the 4-cylinder petrol engine delivers additional power to the two electric engines via a 175-kW generator, the maximum speed increases to (limited) 200 km/h and the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. In this case, the car is a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, to be exact.

The car was delivered in the colour “Earth”. However, this is not just simple metallic paint. The paint is interspersed with very finely ground glass shards. The effect in the sunlight is absolutely breathtaking. The large 22-inch rims underline the dynamics of the design.
On the inside of the car, a fine three-colour leather interior welcomes the driver, the car is finished with fine nappa leather, it has an alcantara roof lining, aluminium paddles on the steering wheel, a touchscreen entertainment system and a centre console with a perspex cover which provides an open view of the battery system. The small but elegant wooden applications are sustainable and made of driftwood.

The suspension is sporty, comfortable and never hard. The Fisker accelerates powerfully, sustainably and constantly, its road holding in fast curves is neutral, balanced and safely manageable and it has absolutely no tendency to stagger. The steering is pleasantly direct, but not jittery. The Brembo brakes are very powerful and nuanced.
