Description
At the Brussels Motor Show in 1956, Fiat unveiled an impish people mover which was to become beloved in Italy and beyond. The Multipla shared much of its architecture with the legendary Fiat 600, which includes a rear-engine configuration. With an approximate 25 hp, it was built more for pragmatic functionality than sheer performance and was able to attain a top speed of 50 mph. So popular was this smiling six-seater, that Fiat extended production from 1956 through 1969.
This lovely blue and white example is believed to sport its original colors and has benefited from a high-quality repaint. The interior is upholstered in black vinyl, as original, and presents in very good condition. It features the highly desirable fold-down middle-seat configuration, which is easily converted to provide significant additional interior space. The current owner purchased the Multipla out of Chicago, and then treated it to a sympathetic cosmetic refurbishment by Bayberry Vintage Autos of Hampton, New Hampshire, a noted specialist in the restoration of classic automobiles.
Following a more recent service and cosmetic refresh completed in late 2019 by the same specialist, this charming Multipla has under 26,000 miles on its odometer. With a design reminiscent of Dr. Seuss illustrations, it is sure to garner smiles wherever it goes.
